maru is one of the most famous electone performer in Nico Nico douga. Many of the Japanese children nowadays study electone (yes, I used to play it too long time ago...) but her performances are quite amazing.
Pirates of the Caribbean
Star Wars
Dragon Quest
This one is another one from Dragon Quest, and she is playing this music backwards
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc
Okkusenman etc
She is insanely talented.
Why do you think the Electone is so popular for study by children?

Hi Gen,
I think there are a bunch of reasons but taking my case for example:
1) you can use headphones to keep the noise down for families/neighbors whereas piano etc inevitably makes noise - very important in Japan
2) it's a lot of fun. you can change the sounds, instruments, rhythms, etc
3) compared to piano, you can start playing catchy music easily (you do have to do the basics such as learn the codes etc, but those trainings are a lot less compared to piano I think)
4) you can play popular music and there are lots of scores sold. I think they are a lot more attractive for children compared to classical music. I've played music such as Tetsuwan Atom (Astro boy) and Mickey Mouse March when I was in the elementary school. It is easy (cuz you can use rhythms and assisting functions of electone) and very fun :)
But it's not only about the children- my mother is over 60, but she started to learn electone recently and she's really enjoying it now.
